The Mercury led 55-35 with 6:42 remaining. They still held a 58-43 advantage with just over four minutes to go before the Lynx rattled off 12 straight points, closing to 58-55 on a 3-pointer by Amanda Lassiter with 1:18 remaining.
Anna DeForge, who scored 25 points, split a pair of foul shots to make it 59-55 with 21 seconds to go before Lovelace-Tolbert made her 3-pointer.
Diana Taurasi, who scored 11 points, was fouled but missed both free throws and teammate Plenette Pierson committed a foul on the rebound. Lovelace-Tolbert sank two from the line to give Minnesota the lead.
Taurasi missed a shot and fouled Katie Smith, who made 1-of-2 with 5.4 seconds to go. The Mercury had one last chance, but Lassiter stole a pass.
The Lynx won despite shooting just 38 percent (21-of-55) from the field and placing just one player in double figures. Smith scored 10 points, but the bench contributed 27.
The Mercury fell to 2-4 on their season-high seven-game road trip.
