New York improved to 3-0 on a four-game road trip and improved the league's best record to 5-1. Swoopes tried to prevent in by scoring 13 of her 19 points in the second half as Houston rallied from a 16-point deficit and took the lead.

The Liberty were nursing a 57-56 lead when Elena Baranova rebounded a miss by the Comets' Sheila Lambert and threw a long outlet pass to Vickie Johnson, who converted a three-point play. After Lambert nailed a jumper, Crystal Robinson countered with a 3-pointer and Becky Hammon added a runner for a 65-58 cushion with 1:21 to go.
Hammon and Baranova each scored 13 points for New York and Tari Phillips added 11. Johnson and Robinson chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Baranova came up with her biggest contribution on the defensive end against Tina Thompson, who made 5-of-18 shots for 13 points. Thompson poured in a career-high 35 points in Houston's 68-62 loss at New York on May 23.
