AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 21 (Ticker) -- Swin Cash and the Detroit Shock are one step away from making sure the road to the WNBA championship goes through the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Cash scored 20 points and rookie Cheryl Ford recorded her 14th double-double as the Shock completed a season sweep of the Cleveland Rockers with a 71-56 victory.

Detroit improved the league's best record to 23-9 and reduced its magic number to one for clinching home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. The Shock already have secured the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Cleveland suffered a damaging blow to is playoff hopes. The Rockers fell into a third-place tie with New York, just one-half game ahead of Connecticut.

Ford, the daughter of Karl Malone, missed Detroit's last game following the death of her grandmother. She came back in typical form, collecting 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Shock used a 15-4 tear to build a 58-45 advantage with 9:42 left. Ford and Deanna Nolan each scored four points during the tear.

Detroit placed five players in double figures as Nolan totaled 12 points and Kedra Holland-Corn and Elaine Powell each chipped in 10. The Shock held a commanding 41-25 edge on the glass.

Chasity Melvin scored 14 points and rookie LaToya Thomas added 10 for Cleveland, which shot just under 36 percent (20-for-56).
