SEATTLE, Aug. 12 (Ticker) -- The Seattle Storm were cooled off, even if
Lauren Jackson was not.
Jennifer Azzi and Marie Ferdinand scored 18 points apiece as the
San Antonio Silver Stars posted an 87-77 victory over the
Storm, who had their franchise-record home winning streak
snapped despite Jackson's record-tying seventh straight
double-double.
Seattle had won nine consecutive games at KeyArena - the longest
run in the franchise's four-year history. The Storm lost at
home for the first time since June 14 against Minnesota despite
another dominant effort from Jackson.
Jackson collected 32 points and 18 rebounds to match the WNBA
record for consecutive double-doubles. She made 9-of-17 shots
from the floor and 14-of-16 from the line, eclipsing the
previous franchise mark for free throws made.
The Silver Stars took the lead for good at 64-63 on a pair of
free throws from Ferdinand with 8:46 remaining. They had a 69-68
edge with 6 1/2 minutes left before reeling off six straight
points, including four by Azzi.
San Antonio made all 14 free throws in the final four minutes,
including eight from Azzi, and finished at 30-of-35 from the
charity stripe.
Margo Dydek collected 16 points, nine rebounds and five blocks
and Adrienne Goodson added 15 points as the Silver Stars won for
the fifth time in eight games.
Amanda Lassiter had 15 points and eight assists and Sandy
Brondello scored 12 points for Seattle. All-Star point guard SueBird had nine points and eight assists.
