After San Antonio's Adrienne Goodson buried a layup to cut the deficit to 48-43 with 7:27 remaining, the Comets went on a decisive 10-4 run. Janeth Arcain, who scored 16 points, capped the run with a pair of free throws for a 58-47 lead with 3:27 left.
Tina Thompson was the only other Houston player to score in double digits with 14 points. Thompson grabbed nine rebounds and Michelle Snow blocked five shots.
San Antonio had a three-game winning streak snapped, dropping its first game under interim coach Shell Dailey.
Goodson finished with 13 points and Margo Dydek had 11 and 14 rebounds for the Silver Stars. San Antonio shot a woeful 34 percent (22-of-64).
The game drew 11,060 fans, the largest home crowd for Houston this season.
