SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 31 (Ticker) -- Kara Lawson's 3-pointers gave the Sacramento Monarchs a three-game winning streak.

Lawson made six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 24 points as the Monarchs moved above .500 for the second time this season with an 83-75 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.

Lawson, a reserve, made 7-of-10 shots, including 6-of-8 from the arc. She was one shy of the WNBA record for 3-pointers, set by Sparks forward Mwadi Mabika on August 17, 2000.

Two of the 3-pointers came in an 8-0 burst that gave the Monarchs the lead for good. Her 3-pointer gave Sacramento a 64-63 lead with 6 1/2 minutes remaining. After a basket by Tangela Smith, Lawson drilled another 3-pointer for a 69-63 advantage with 4:05 to go.

A 3-pointer by Nikki Teasley pulled Los Angeles within 73-71 with 1:21 left, but Lady Grooms made a basket and Lawson sank two free throws, sealing the win with 34 seconds remaining.

Edna Campbell scored 14 points for the Monarchs (13-12), who shot 49 percent (29-of-59) and had five players in double figures. Sacramento also tied a franchise record with 11 blocked shots, including three by Smith.

Teasley scored a season-high 23 points and DeLisha Milton added 20 for the Sparks, who again played without injured star center Lisa Leslie. They shot just 38 percent (26-of-68) and had a five-game winning streak at Arco Arena snapped.

Sacramento has won six of its last seven games while Los Angeles has lost four of six.
