Penny Taylor scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures for Cleveland, which used a 19-3 run to take a 50-41 lead on a layup by Lucienne Berthieu with 9:11 to play.
The Lynx got within 50-45 with just under eight minutes left on a layup by Tamika Williams layup. But Cleveland held on for the 100th win in team history, improving to 100-104 all-time.
Minnesota extended a six-point halftime lead to 39-31 on a jumper by Smith with 16 1/2 minutes remaining.
Berthieu finished with 15 points and Deanna Jackson and Chasity Melvin added 11 apiece for the Rockers, who have alternated wins and losses in their last eight games.
