SAN ANTONIO, July 5 (Ticker) -- Marie Ferdinand scored 16 points as the San Antonio Silver Stars ended a three-game losing streak with an 81-70 victory over the Phoenix Mercury in a matchup of the worst teams in the Western Conference.

Ferdinand made 5-of-12 shots from the field and was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Rookie Gwen Jackson contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds and Jennifer Azzi scored 12, including a 3-pointer from half-court at the halftime buzzer that gave the Silver Stars a 43-39 lead.

Azzi also converted all six of her free throws as San Antonio shot 88 percent (22-of-25) from the line.

Margo Dydek pitched in with 11 points and Adrienne Goodson scored nine before being helped off the court with a strained right calf muscle with 12:20 to go. Goodson scored five points during a decisive 13-3 run to start the second half.

The Mercury also had four players in double figures, with Anna DeForge leading the way with 14 points. Adrian Williams and reserve Iziane Castro Marques each added 11 and Tamicha Jackson totaled 10, just two in the second half.

San Antonio outrebounded Phoenix,43-26, and dropped the Mercury to 1-8 on the road.
