HOUSTON, July 1 (Ticker) -- Janeth Arcain hit a 15-foot jumper with
2.3 seconds left to give the Houston Comets a 71-69 victory over
the Minnesota Lynx.
Arcain scored 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting and gave Houston its
first lead of the second half with 8:54 to go when her jumper
made it 55-54.
Before that, Minnesota appeared headed to its season-high fourth
straight win. Svetlana Abrosimova scored 12 of her 21 points
in the first half and Sheri Sam had 12 of her 16 by halftime as
the Lynx established a 39-29 lead.
But Minnesota went cold in the second half, shooting just 43
percent (9-for-21) after connecting at 62.5 percent in the first
20 minutes.
Houston turned it up after halftime, making 16-for-31 shots after
a miserable 36 percent peformance (13-for-36) in the first half.
Sheryl Swoopes, whose three-point play tied it with 36 seconds
left, led the Comets with 19 points.
Swoopes and Minnesota's Katie Smith both reached the 2,500 career points milestone in the game.
