MINNEAPOLIS, June 17 (Ticker) -- Tina Thompson scored 30 points and
Janeth Arcain added 13 as the Houston Comets posted a 77-68
victory over the Minnesota Lynx.
The Comets avenged their first-ever loss in the series (June 1)
and improved to 14-1 against the Lynx.
Minnesota, which never led in the second half, closed to 67-65
on Svetlana Abrosimova's free throw with 2:15 left, but Houston
put away the contest with an 11-0 spurt.
The Comets scored 14 of their final 19 points from the foul line
and made 20-of-23 (87 percent) free throws overall. Thompson
hit all 13 of her foul shots.
Houston shot 53 percent from the field (26-of-49), going 5-of-7
from 3-point range. Minnesota converted just 4-of-18 from beyond
the arc.
Katie Smith scored 27 points and Tamika Williams contributed 12
for the Lynx, who tied the game for the final time, 50-50, on
Smith's jumper with 15 minutes left.
Smith scored a career-high 32 points in Minnesota's last game, a
77-72 victory over Seattle on Saturday, and set a WNBA record
with seven 3-pointers.
