SEATTLE, June 14 (Ticker) -- Katie Smith made sure the Minnesota Lynx
did not go home empty-handed.
Smith matched a WNBA record by draining seven 3-pointers and
poured in a season-high 32 points as the Lynx snapped a
three-game losing streak with a 77-72 victory over the Seattle
Storm.
Minnesota avoided a winless three-game road trip, thanks to
Smith's hot shooting. She scored 19 points and made all five
3-point attempts in the first half as the Lynx built a 48-35
advantage. The 48 points matched a franchise scoring record for
the first half.
Seattle made a series of runs in the second half and got within
69-68 on Sue Bird's layup with 3:33 remaining. Smith had the
answer with a 3-pointer from the right wing 21 seconds later.
After a basket by Kamila Vodichkova pulled Seattle within 72-70,
the Storm missed a chance to tie when Lauren Jackson could not
convert a layup with just over a minute left.
Smith made 3-of-4 foul shots and Sheri Sam added a pair from the
line in the final minute to seal the victory.
Jackson scored 18 points and Bird added 16 for Seattle, which
had a three-game winning streak snapped. The Storm were
outrebounded, 33-26.
