SAN ANTONIO, June 7 (Ticker) -- Swin Cash and the Detroit Shock are intent on avoiding road woes this season.

Cash scored 12 points as part of a balanced attack and the Shock never trailed en route to a 74-55 victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars.

Detroit went 2-14 away from home a year ago, but its first road game of the new season showcased a different brand of basketball. Rookie Cheryl Ford scored six of her 11 points in a game-opening 12-0 run and the Shock went on to build a 37-29 halftime lead.

A 3-pointer by Jennifer Azzi pulled San Antonio within 42-39 with 16:43 remaining. Cash made a corner jumper and Tweety Nolan added a three-point play for an eight-point advantage with 15:15 to go.

Reserve Kedra Holland-Corn scored 13 points to lead Detroit while Nolan added 11 and Elaine Powell chipped in 10. Ford also pulled down 12 rebounds in 19 foul-plagued minutes.

San Antonio shot a franchise-low 26 percent (18-of-70), breaking its record set three days ago when it shot 31 percent (16-of-52) in a loss at Charlotte. Marie Ferdinand scored 16 points to lead the Silver Stars and rookie Gwen Jackson added 15 and 14 rebounds.

The Shock snapped a three-game skid against the Silver Stars.
