In the first WNBA game in San Antonio, Ferdinand scored 20 points to lead the hometown Silver Stars to a 65-56 victory over the Seattle Storm.

The Silver Stars, an original WNBA franchise that played its first six seasons as the Utah Starzz, drew a crowd of 15,593 to the SBC Center. They trailed 31-28 at halftime but went on a 13-3 early in the second half and seize control of the game.

Jennifer Azzi scored eight of her 11 points during the spurt, which was capped by LaQuanda Quick's layup that made it 48-38 with 9:42 remaining.

Seattle edged within 51-47 with 6 1/2 minutes left on a layup by Sue Bird, who had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists. But the Storm got no closer as Ferdinand hit a pair of free throws at the other end and San Antonio began to pull away.

Ferdinand hit 1-of-2 from the line to give San Antonio its largest lead at 65-54 with 33 seconds left.

Lauren Jackson scored 15 points for the Storm, who fell to 0-2.

San Antonio 7-2 center Margo Dydek had 15 points and eight rebounds.
