The Indiana Fever (20-8) and the Phoenix Mercury (20-9) face off tonight in a possible WNBA Finals preview (7:00 p.m., 1070 The Fan, Fox Sports Indiana).

Indiana’s Last Outing (August 29, 2009):
The Fever came back from an 11-point deficit to take a 14-point lead, but eventually fell one point short of victory against the Sacramento Monarchs, 79-78. Katie Douglas led all scorers with 24 points and Tamika Catchings added 22 points. Nicole Powell had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Monarchs. Catchings took a jumpshot from the right wing at the end of regulation that would have put the Fever ahead, but missed off the back of the iron.

Phoenix’s Last Outing (August 18, 2009):
Diana Taurasi stuffed the stat sheet, carrying the Mercury over the Connecticut Sun, 95-84. Taurasi had 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Phoenix has won three of their last four games and is 8-3 against the East.

Last Meeting (August 8, 2009):
Katie Douglas made a career-high six 3-pointers on route to defeating the Mercury 90-83. Douglas finished the game with 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Diana Taurasi was the high scorer for the Mercury with 16 points. The Fever started the game with a 17-2 advantage.

  • The Fever currently is the best team in WNBA and has clinched the Eastern Conference regular season title.

  • Tonight’s game features the WNBA’s top four players in MVP considerations. The Fever’s Katie Douglas and Tamika Catchings and the Mercury’s Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter.

  • The Mercury scores a league high 92.5 points per game, while the Fever allows its opponents to score a league low 72.1 points per game.
