The Indiana Fever (20-7) looks for a record-tying 21st victory and a record-breaking 14th straight home victory with a win against the Sacramento Monarchs (9-19) (7:00 p.m., 1070 The Fan, WNBA LiveAccess). A win will also clinch the Fever’s first-ever Eastern Conference regular season title. The Monarchs visit Indianapolis on the end of a back-to-back outing which included a game at Minnesota last night.

Indiana’s Last Outing (August 27, 2009):

Tough team defense carried the Indiana Fever to a 77-66 victory against the San Antonio Silver Stars. The Fever guards limited the WNBA’s No. 2 scorer, Becky Hammon, to zero points. Tamika Catchings led all scorers with 20 points and added eight rebounds and five steals.

Sacramento’s Last Outing (August 25, 2009):

Last Tuesday, the Atlanta Dream handily beat Sacramento 103-83 with the help of Iziane Castro Marques’ 30 points. Rookie Angel McCoughtry added 20 for the Dream. Ticha Penicheiro was one point away from a double-double finishing with nine points and 11 assists for the Monarchs.

Last Meeting (August 20, 2009):

The Monarchs defeated the Fever 67-62 at Arco Arena. The Fever committed a season-high 24 turnovers against the Monarchs. Rebekkah Brunson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Sacramento. Katie Douglas led all scorers with 21 points.

Stats and Trends:

  • With a Fever victory or an Atlanta Dream loss tonight, the Fever will clinch home-court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs.

  • The Fever has four players in the top 12 in steals per game with Tamika Catchings (2.93), Tully Bevilaqua (1.85), Katie Douglas (1.67) and Ebony Hoffman (1.56).

  • The last time Becky Hammon went scoreless in a game was exactly four years previous to Thursday’s loss against the Fever. Coincidently, that game was also against the Fever, at Conseco Fieldhouse, while she was playing on the New York Liberty.
