Catchings All-WNBA Again
Averaging 16.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, Catchings led Indiana in scoring, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and 3-point field goals – each for the third straight season. She is the league’s only player so versatile to have led her team in so many categories even once during those three years.
Catchings was second in the WNBA with 152 free throws made in 2004. She was fourth in the league in rebounds and steals per game, and fifth in scoring.
Catchings, who led the U.S. Olympic team in minutes and steals while starting every game of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, was the WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2002. She was a first-team All-WNBA selection in 2002 and 2003. She also was the runner-up for the league’s MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2003. She finished third in the Defensive Player of the Year voting earlier this fall.
