Tamika Catchings Featured in Fitness Magazine

News Release | April 14, 2010

WNBA Indiana Fever All-Star Tamika Catchings will be featured in the upcoming May issue of Fitness Magazine, available on newsstands on Apr 27.  Catchings shares how she gets ready for a game, both physically and mentally, and the importance fitness plays in her everyday life.

“My goal is to practice a lifestyle of total fitness -- eating right, getting enough sleep, and exercising on a regular basis,” said Catchings. “I want to be healthy physically, mentally, and spiritually both on and off the court.”

Tamika Catchings shares this enthusiasm for fitness through her Catch the Stars Foundation, which has been sponsoring free fitness clinics in Indiana since 2002.  “My foundation focuses on fitness because it is so important to be active and to be able to live a physical lifestyle,” said Catchings. “Too many kids spend a lot of their time in front of computers, television, or playing video games. The clinics are all about showing them how much fun working out can be.” The clinics are geared for youth ages 7 to 14.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist is known within the Indianapolis community for the importance she places on living a healthy lifestyle. In 2009, Catchings agreed to lend her name to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels’  health initiative program, INShape Indiana, which educates Hoosiers on the importance of eating better, moving more, and avoiding tobacco products.

Next year Catchings will take her Catch the Stars Foundation Fitness Clinic on the road, broadening the reach of her message of living a healthy lifestyle. The mini-tour will also include a self-esteem seminar for girls.
