Tamika Catchings To Miss All-Star Game

News Release | July 10, 2006
Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings will not participate in any basketball related activities at the 2006 WNBA All-Star Game presented by Vonage in New York this week.

Catchings suffered an injury to her left Achilles’ heel in a collision with the Storm’s Lauren Jackson during Indiana’s 74-62 win at Seattle on Sunday, July 9. She was treated by the Fever training staff immediately after the game and met with team doctors Monday morning.

She was diagnosed with acute Achilles’ tendinitis and will wear a protective boot until being re-evaluated by doctors on Friday. She will have no on-court activity for a minimum of 3-5 days.

The leading vote-getter in All-Star voting, Catchings is averaging 15.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.28 bpg and a league-leading 2.39 spg. She is the only player in the WNBA ranked in the top 10 in all five departments.

It is the second time this season she has missed action while wearing a protective boot. A right arch sprain resulted in games missed at Houston, May 31, and at Minnesota, June 2.
