Overseas All-Stars
Anna DeForge was named the MVP of the Polish Cup Tournament last weekend after leading her Krakow Wisla Can-Pack team to the championship in Gydnia, Poland. DeForge scored a game high 17 points and made all six free throws in leading the Polish League champions to a 59-55 win over host Lotos Gydnia. The Polish Cup championship was the first ever for DeForge's Krakow team.
DeForge, recently acquired by the Fever in a trade for Kelly Miller, has averaged 18.8 points per game during EuroLeague play with Wisla Can-Pack. Second in EuroLeague scoring to Indianapolis native Katie Douglas, she has added 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 rebounds while guiding her team to the EuroLeague's Sweet Sixteen.
Later this week, DeForge travels to Pecs, Hungary to play in the EuroLeague All-Star game with, and against, the best American, European, and Australian players currently playing in Europe. Many of the top WNBA stars will be participating in the game, including Douglas and Fever forward Jurgita Streimikyte. [Streimikyte, however, is not expected to return to Indiana this summer due to commitments with the Lithuania National Team]. After the game, DeForge will return to Krakow to help her team in the final major tournament in Poland, before returning to the U.S. for the upcoming WNBA season.
DeForge's recent honors are among several for Fever players this winter.
