Miller’s Team Takes Korean Title
The Woori Bank Hansae claimed the Women’s Korea Basketball League winter season title with a 67-62 win over Samsung Life Bichumi in Seoul, South Korea on Wednesday.
The Hansae won the playoff final series by three games to one, and took their second winter league title and third overall.
Center Kim Kye-ryong led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds while Kim Young-ok and Kelly Miller backed her up with 16 points each. Miller plays for the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. Woori Bank's last winter title, and its lone summer title, both came with Miller's Fever teammate Tamika Catchings playing for the Hansae.
The Hansae outnumbered the Bichumi 32-21 in rebounds. The Hansae took an early 20-15 lead with Kim Kye-ryong scoring seven and stretched it to 36-27 by halftime. The Bichumi closed to within 46-45 late in the third quarter but the Hansae scored seven straight points and stayed ahead the rest of the way.
Hansae guard Kim Young-ok also won the final series MVP award. The 31-year-old got 22 votes from reporters to edge out teammate Kim Kye-ryong, who had 19. Last week she was also selected as the regular season MVP.
