September 29, 2013 | Fever 53, Dream 67 (Game 2)

What Indiana Coach Lin Dunn will remember most about the 2013 season is her team's off-the-charts resilience and resolve.

“There was a time when we were 1-7, and we battled and battled and battled,” Dunn said after Atlanta eliminated the Fever, 67-53. “For us to get this close to the (league) Finals, I think, is a tremendous accomplishment.

September 26, 2013 | Fever 79, Dream 84 (Game 1)

The Indiana Fever faced their stiffest test of the postseason Thursday night at Philips Arena and came up just short, dropping Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals 84-79 to the Atlanta Dream. It was a back-and-forth game for much of the night, featuring 15 ties and 11 lead changes in the first three quarters. Atlanta took the lead for good with 1:40 left in the third, but Indiana remained within striking distance until the final seconds.

September 22, 2013 | Fever 79, Sky 57 (Game 2)

Tamika Catchings, Erlana Larkins and the rest of the Indiana Fever squad are playing like they can't be denied in their quest to win a second consecutive WNBA championship. Indiana, seeded No. 4 in the East, eliminated No. 1 seed Chicago on Sunday with a sweep in the best-of-three conference semifinals. Catchings and Larkins both produced double-doubles as Indiana bolted to a 20-point halftime lead and easily held off the Sky.

September 20, 2013 | Fever 85, Sky 72 (Game 1)

Shavonte Zellous scored 20 points to lead five scorers in double figures and the Indiana Fever shot a a season-high 50.8 percent from the floor to upend the top-seeded Chicago Sky, 85-72, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Indiana, the No. 4 seed in the East, won at Allstate Arena for the third time this season and became the third-winningest playoff team in WNBA history (25 wins in 10 seasons).

Iziane Castro Marques hit a pair of free throws with 1.9 seconds remaining in overtime to push the Connecticut Sun past the Indiana Fever, 82-80, to close the WNBA regular season for both teams. Indiana, playing for seeding in the upcoming WNBA Playoffs, lost for just the second time in its last five games.

On “Fan Appreciation Night” at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Tamika Catchings, Katie Douglas and the Indiana Fever rewarded their followers with a game to remember. Catchings recorded her seventh double-double of the season and 89th of her career, collecting 23 points and 10 rebounds in a rousing 66-63 victory Friday night over the New York Liberty.

Dunn's Fever players broke that rule far too often Tuesday night and paid for their transgressions in a 69-67 loss to the Washington Mystics at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Indiana locked up its ninth consecutive postseason berth Saturday night with a hard-earned 69-60 victory over the Connecticut Sun at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The triumph, Indiana's third in the last four games, put the team at 15-16 and in sole possession of third place in the Eastern Conference with three regular-season games remaining.

Briann January scored a career-high 23 points and Erlana Larkins added 13 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high six assists to pace the Indiana Fever to an 82-77 win over the Chicago Sky on Friday. January scored a career-best five 3-pointers to spark an Indiana club that hit eight overall while winning for the second time in three games.

Angel McCoughtry scored 30 points and added nine rebounds Wednesday to pace the Atlanta Dream to an 89-80 overtime win over the Indiana Fever. Atlanta scored four consecutive fast-break layups in overtime to lead the Dream (16-13) to a nip-and-tuck win over the Fever and clinch its fifth straight berth in the WNBA Playoffs.

August 30, 2013 | Fever 73, Liberty 67

Tamika Catchings scored 22 points and Shavonte Zellous added 21 Friday night to lead the Indiana Fever to a 73-67 win over the New York Liberty. In the midst of a four-game road swing, it was the Fever’s second win in three games and pulled Indiana (13-15) within a half-game of the Washington Mystics in third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

August 24, 2013 | Fever 77, Lynx 84

Maya Moore scored a career-high 35 points on 15-of-21 shooting Saturday night to lead the Minnesota Lynx to an 84-74 win over the Indiana Fever in a rematch of the 2012 WNBA Finals. Moore hit three 3-pointers and added eight rebounds to pace Minnesota to its second straight win.The Lynx (20-7), the WNBA’s first team to 20 wins, shot 57.8 percent from the floor while handing Indiana (12-15) its fifth loss in its past seven games.

August 21, 2013 | Fever 80, Silver Stars 63

Shavonte Zellous needed only two quarters to dispose of the rust. Zellous scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the second half Wednesday night as the Indiana Fever thumped the San Antonio Silver Stars, 80-63, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Her performance came after she missed Indiana's previous four games with plantar fasciitis.

Tina Thompson scored 23 points Saturday to help the Seattle Storm get past the Indiana Fever, 77-70 at KeyArena. She hit 11-of-12 free throws and added seven rebounds. It was Indiana’s third straight loss and its fourth in five games. The Fever (11-14) closed a three-game, four-day West Coast road trip after earlier losses at Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Kristi Toliver scored 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting Friday night to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to a 94-72 victory over the Indiana Fever. Los Angeles extended its win streak to six games, the longest in the WNBA, while Indiana lost consecutive games for the first time since a 7-game skid in June Toliver led a Sparks shooting assault that matched the highest percentage ever by a Fever opponent. Los Angeles hit 36-of-57 for 63.2 percent, matching a 2009 effort by the Minnesota Lynx.

Candice Dupree led four scorers in double figures Wednesday night to lead the Phoenix Mercury to a 75-58 victory over the Indiana Fever.The Mercury (13-11) shot 50 from the floor while limiting Indiana (11-12) to season-lows of 31 percent shooting and 58 points. The Fever dropped below the .500 mark as it began a West Coast stretch with three games in four days.

The Indiana Fever players and coaches talked about it in pre-game meetings: Be aggressive offensively. Don't hesitate on open shots. The game plan worked swimmingly Saturday night. Indiana shed any reluctance to shoot the basketball and connected on a season-high 50 percent from the field in a convincing 80-66 victory over the Atlanta Dream at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The Indiana Fever defense, known as one of the fiercest and most consistent in the WNBA, faltered Thursday night against the offensively talented Los Angeles Sparks.The Sparks scored 50 points in the paint. They shot 54.5 percent from the field. Their crisp passes led to 18 assists and numerous layups against a Fever club that looked out of synch in a 74-64 loss at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Tamika Catchings scored 18 points with eight rebounds and three steals Tuesday night as the Indiana Fever won for the ninth time in 12 games, defeating the Chicago Sky, 64-58. Indiana downed the East-leading Sky for the second time in three nights, both times holding Chicago to season lows in scoring.The Fever, who opened the season 1-7 due to a rash of injuries, pulled to .500 for the first time since May and crept within three games of the East leaders.

The Indiana Fever turned in a forceful, all-out effort Saturday night, producing a dominant 79-58 victory over the Chicago Sky at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. In some ways, this Indiana triumph reminded observers of the 2012 Fever, champions of the WNBA, who often beat opponents simply by imposing their will. Saturday, strong defense highlighted the night as the Fever held Chicago to 32.8 percent shooting and a season low in scoring.

Tina Charles finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds to accent a 16-point comeback as the Connecticut Sun downed the Indiana Fever 74-60 on Thursday. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Sun (5-12). The Fever (8-10), playing with just eight players due to the absence of Tamika Catchings and Erin Phillips, lost a halftime lead or tie for the sixth time this season.

Tamika Catchings scored 23 points and Shavonte Zellous added 19 to lead the Indiana Fever to its seventh win in nine games, winning 71-60 over the Tulsa Shock. Catchings and Zellous combined to hit 15 of 25 shots and Indiana shot 46 percent as a team, as the Fever hit the midway point of its schedule. Zellous and Catchings, along with coach Lin Dunn and the Indiana coaching staff, will represent the Fever in Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game in Connecticut.

Shooting woes continue to haunt the Indiana Fever. It happened again Tuesday night for the Fever, who rank last in the WNBA in field goal percentage. Indiana recorded a 33.8 percent mark from the floor, including hitting just 22.7 percent of its 3-pointers, and it cost the home team dearly in 77-72 loss to the New York Liberty at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Tamika Catchings scored 23 points on her 34th birthday and the Indiana Fever rebounded from a sluggish start to earn a 65-52 victory over the Washington Mystics. It was the Indiana’s sixth win in its last seven games. Catchings finished with the 84th double-double of her storied career, adding 10 rebounds with six assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.

The Indiana Fever saved its best stuff for the fourth quarter Friday night. An aggressive offense and a swarming defense pushed the Fever to an 18-4 run in the quarter, and Indiana pulled out a 77-70 victory over the Washington Mystics at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

July 13, 2013 | Fever 74, Liberty 53

The Indiana Fever used a devastating third quarter blitz to race past the New York Liberty on Saturday evening, 74-53, at Prudential Center. Clinging to a 37-34 lead at intermission, the Fever came out of the locker room to outscore the Liberty 31-6 in the third period and race to a 28-point advantage after three quarters. Combined with the final six points of the first half, the Fever’s 37-6 run nearly put the game out of reach.

Indiana's production in Thursday's matinee game wasn't quite enough to derail the team currently playing the best basketball in the WNBA. But as the Fever continues its battle back from an injury-wracked start to 2013, the club's overall effort in a 69-62 loss to the visiting Minnesota Lynx seemed like a promising sign.

Coach Lin Dunn called it the Indiana Fever's “deadly twist play.” Whatever the name, that formation helped to close out the Fever's 71-63 victory Sunday night over the visiting Seattle Storm. With star forward Tamika Catchings at point guard in place of injured Briann January, the Fever used a 6-0 run in the final two minutes to capture its second consecutive victory after losing seven in a row.

Numerous factors contributed to Indiana's much-needed victory Friday night, but none meant more than having a rested Tamika Catchings leading the Fever again with her usual resolve and all-out play. After two games off because of a back injury, Catchings erupted for a game-high 28 points while also collecting six steals, five rebounds and four blocked shots as Indiana toppled the Tulsa Shock at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

For one quarter of Tuesday afternoon’s game in Atlanta, the Indiana Fever outplayed the best team in the WNBA. Playing without six injured players, the Fever nonetheless came out fearlessly, building an eight-point lead in the game’s first nine minutes. From there, fatigue and reality set in, as Atlanta (8-1) used a 19-0 run to seize control of the game and coast to a 76-60 victory. Indiana (1-7) has now lost seven straight games.

The injury bug just continues to bite the Indiana Fever. With only nine healthy bodies, Indiana fell to the Chicago Sky 71-61 Saturday evening at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Guard Epiphanny Prince scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting to lead Chicago (5-3).

In a weekend that started with the defending champs visiting the White House, the Fever had hoped to have a different outcome to close the weekend. Instead, the Fever, beset by injuries, travel home with a loss to the Mystics that's sure to stick with them, 64-60.

The Fever's trip to meet President Barack Obama in Washington D.C. comes on Friday, a reward for the team's achievement of winning the 2012 WNBA championship. On Wednesday night, however, the rewards were few for an Indiana club that fell to the visiting Connecticut Sun, 73-61, and lost its fourth consecutive game of 2013.

The Mercury went with a perimeter-oriented lineup and emphasized an athletic style powered by star guard Diana Taurasi. It resulted in an 82-67 victory over the Indiana Fever at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in a game televised nationally by ABC.

June 5, 2013 | Fever 68, Liberty 75

The Fever, already with three veteran players injured until at least midseason, had to overcome the loss of another player to injury when Katie Douglas’ sore back kept her from attending the game at Prudential Center. She stayed behind at the team hotel while her teammates jumped to an early 22-8 lead after the first quarter. Indiana led by as many as 16 points before the Liberty cut the gap to six, 36-30, at intermission.

On a joyous and celebratory night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the Indiana Fever didn't want a visiting opponent ruining the mood. Problem was, the Fever got careless with the basketball late in the game. Indiana's defense struggled at times, too. And when Friday night's 2013 home opener had ended, the Fever players were left to deal with an 86-77 loss to the Atlanta Dream.

The defending WNBA champion Indiana Fever spotted the San Antonio Silver Stars an early 10-0 lead in the season opener for both teams, but the Fever outscored the home team 45-29 in the second half to roll to a 79-64 victory.

Indiana got 19 points from Tamika Catchings and Shavonte Zellous, and 18 from Katie as Indiana won its opener with just nine active players.

Indiana's shooting was dreadful Wednesday, but nobody among the Fever coaches and players seemed overly concerned. Finding a replacement for injured backup center Jessica Davenport became the No. 1 issue.

Indiana connected on just 27.3 percent of its shots (21-of-77) in a 64-58 loss to San Antonio at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Shavonte Zellous scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and the Indiana Fever overcame a nine-point deficit with 5:05 remaining to upend the San Antonio Silver Stars in the WNBA preseason opener for both teams, 80-75. Indiana, the defending WNBA champions, outscored the Silver Stars 16-2 down the stretch with 12 of 16 coming from Zellous and rookie Layshia Clarendon.
