CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions Serves 16 Millionth Meal

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—When seniors line up for the mid-day meal on July 7 at the Indianapolis Senior Center, one of them will be eating the symbolic 16 millionth meal provided by CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions. Serving the meal will be WNBA All-Star and Olympic Gold Medalist Tamika Catchings, teammate Katie Douglas, and Coach Lin Dunn, all of the Indiana Fever.

“As athletes, we recognize the critical role that good nutrition plays in maintaining one’s overall health and wellbeing,” said Indiana Fever Coach Lin Dunn. “We are honored to support CICOA’s efforts to provide nutritional meals that help seniors and people with disabilities remain at home, active and independent.”

“This celebration event recognizes not only a significant milestone for CICOA, but also the meaningful contributions of our community leaders, partners, donors and volunteers,” said CICOA President and CEO Orion H. Bell IV. “We also are grateful to the Indianapolis Senior Center, which was one of four sites to host meals in 1973 when the program began. “

CICOA’s nutrition program, Meals and More, provides more than a half-million meals annually through in-home delivery and at neighborhood meal sites throughout Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Morgan and Shelby counties.

Home-delivered meals are distributed weekdays to individuals who are predominately homebound, have difficulty with access to food or are at risk of institutionalized care. Host locations for neighborhood meals include senior centers, churches and apartment communities.
