CHICAGO – Sylvia Fowles scored 13 points to lead the Chicago Sky to an 81-74 preseason victory Monday over the Indiana Fever. Fowles led three double-figure scorers for the Sky. Jia Perkins added 12 and Dominique Canty had 11.
In what was the final preseason game for both teams, Chicago (3-1) led wire-to-wire while playing with a full roster. Indiana (1-1), meanwhile, played again without four starters from its 2009 WNBA Finals team. Four Fever players – Tamika Catchings, Katie Douglas, Ebony Hoffman and Tammy Sutton-Brown – are still active in Turkey where a championship series concludes this week.
The Sky led 45-41 at the intermission and pushed its lead to as many as 13 early in the fourth quarter. Indiana scrapped within 61-54 entering the final quarter but got no closer the rest of the way. Indiana turned the ball over 25 times and shot just 21-of-33 from the foul stripe.
Shay Murphy led Indiana with 15 points. Allie Quigley came off the bench to score 10 with a pair of 3-pointers. Fowles and the Fever’s Jessica Davenport and Joy Cheek shared game honors with eight rebounds.
Indiana opens its regular season Saturday (7:00 p.m.) at Conseco Fieldhouse against the Washington Mystics.
