Veteran Center Sutton-Brown Re-signs With Fever

News Release | February 19, 2008
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Fever has announced the re-signing of free agent center Tammy Sutton-Brown, who will begin her second season in Indiana and her eighth WNBA season overall.

A native of Ontario, Canada, and a member of the Canadian National Team, the 6-4 Sutton-Brown added an experienced post presence to the Fever lineup in 2007. She made 33 starts in 34 appearances for Indiana last summer, averaging 12.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. She was fifth in the WNBA with 1.38 blocks per game.

“I am very excited to announce Tammy as one of our core players returning for another run at a WNBA title,” said Fever Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Kelly Krauskopf. “Signing her was a top priority for our franchise. She has established herself as one of the best centers in the league. Her experience, professionalism and work ethic are what make her such a great player on the floor, and in the locker room.”

Sutton-Brown led the Fever with 25 double-figure scoring games in 2007, and shot 56.4 percent from the floor during the first 18 games of the season while Indiana raced to the best record in the WNBA. Sutton-Brown led the Fever with 48.5 percent shooting overall and helped the team to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Added Head Coach Lin Dunn, “Tammy Sutton-Brown is one of the elite centers in the WNBA. She runs the floor exceptionally well for 6’4” and fits perfectly into our up-tempo style. We expect her to have another All-Star season and be a key part of our goal to win a WNBA championship.”

The Indiana Fever begins its ninth WNBA season by hosting the Washington Mystics on Saturday, May 17 (7:00 p.m.). Led by Sutton-Brown, hometown star Katie Douglas and Olympic gold medalist and five-time WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings, the Fever bids for its first WNBA Finals appearance after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in two of the past three seasons.
