Indiana Takes 69-64 Decision Over Chicago

CHICAGO – The Fever held the Chicago Sky scoreless for 9:51 in the second half before capturing a 69-64 victory Sunday night in the UIC Pavilion. The win was Indiana’s seventh on the road this season, tying a franchise record.
Trailing by 14 midway through the fourth quarter, Chicago went on a 13-4 run to pull within 61-56 of Indiana with 3:27 left in regulation. Tamika Whitmore’s put-back lay-up followed by Anna DeForge’s 3-pointer would put the Fever back in front by double digits, 66-56.
Tamika Catchings led Indiana with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, to go along with nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. Anna DeForge was the only other Fever player to reach double figures, finishing with 14 points, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Tully Bevilaqua added seven points and a season-high seven assists in the game.
Candice Dupree had a career-high 25 points while shooting 10-of-16 from the floor. Amanda Lassiter followed Dupree with 18 points, six assists and five steals.
Indiana led big early after hitting its first eight shots of the game, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc. A Catchings lay-up put the Fever in front 22-9 late in the first quarter. The Fever shot 9-of-12 from the field in the quarter before leading 25-15 after one.
Dupree’s jumper cut Indiana’s lead down to seven at 25-18 in the opening minutes of the second. Indiana would respond with an 11-2 run to take its largest lead of the half, 36-20, midway through the second quarter.
The Fever saw its 16-point lead evaporate after going cold late in the second quarter. Chicago went on a 15-2 run, including 13 unanswered, to close out the half. Indiana failed to score in the final 5:17 of the second and led by just three, 38-35, at halftime.
Chicago cut Indiana’s lead down to one on three occasions in the third quarter, but was unable to take the lead after a number of empty possessions. The Fever then outscored the Sky 8-0 to close the third to extend its lead to a more comfortable nine points, 52-43.
