Heitzman Honored As Indiana Hero
|
Before the game, Heitzman was awarded with a medal commemorating her efforts as an Indiana Hero.
During a 2007 Indiana Fever practice, Fever player Ebony Hoffman fell to the floor after being elbowed in the throat. Heitzman was quickly able to determine that Ebony had a dislocated throat. It is an unusual basketball injury, but if not detected quickly, an individual with this type of injury can die within five minutes or less.
Heitzman was able to relocate her throat and "snap" it into place, thus saving Ebony's life. Thanks to Holly, Fever fans were able to enjoy Ebony's hustle and determination throughout the entire 2007 season.
Holly would tell you that she "was just doing her job." But the unusual circumstance was met by not only her professional expertise, but by the compassion and devotion to excellence that define her heroic actions. Holly’s humanitarian spirit and commitment to her community has made an exceptional and everlasting contribution to the State of Indiana.
