In general:
I wanted to take a look at all of the players tonight and we did get to play everybody. I wanted to give [Jessica] Dickson some time and that is why she started. [L.A.] capitalized on our too many turnovers. L.A. played harder defensively which I did not like. We made some mistakes because of players just returning from overseas. It was a different game than the Seattle game, this game was more aggressive, the pressure was different. We did not execute as well as I would have liked.

INDIANAPOLIS - Marta Fernandez scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting to pace the Los Angeles Sparks to an 81-76 preseason win over the Indiana Fever.

For the second straight game, Fernandez came off the bench to lead the Sparks in scoring. Christi Thomas scored 12 points and Tiffany Stansbury added 10, as the Sparks won on the road for the second time in three days and moved to 2-0 in the preseason.

Indiana got 13 points apiece from Tamika Catchings and Anna DeForge while losing for the first time in two preseason games. DeForge, back in the United States for two days since helping Wisla Can-Pack to a Polish league championship, played just 10 minutes and did not see action until the second half. She shot 4-of-6 from the field, hit both 3-point attempts and was perfect on three free throw attempts.

The Fever led 37-36 at the intermission, but the Sparks outscored the home team 23-15 in the third period to take a seven-point lead. The Sparks led by as many as nine before the Fever rallied in the final minutes.

Tully Bevilaqua's 3-pointer with 51 seconds remaining, her first basket of the preseason, narrowed the Fever deficit to 78-74, and after a blocked shot by rookie Alison Bales, Catchings fed Bales for a layup as Indiana pulled within two points with 28.8 seconds to play.

Murriel Page missed an L.A. jumper with under 16 seconds left, but Thomas got the rebound and was fouled by Catchings. She hit the second of two free throws for a 3-point margin. Following a Fever timeout with 10.4 remaining, Catchings' top of the key 3-pointer rimmed in and out. Tamara Moore got the carom for the Sparks, was fouled, and hit two free throws for the final margin.
