As one of their initiatives to help local youth, the Indiana Fever is committed to the academic and emotional advancement of its young fans. In addition to participation in the WNBA and NBA’s Read to Achieve program, the Fever have dedicated themselves to fostering positive self-esteem and self-commitment to growth in and out of the classroom.

Read to Achieve

• WNBA Read to Achieve is a year-round, league-wide initiative that promotes the value of reading and online literacy and encourages families and adults to read regularly with young children. These efforts by the WNBA help to build lifelong love of reading in young people and provide greater access to books and technology for children.
• Supported by Reading Is Fundamental and Scholastic, Inc., WNBA Read to Achieve promotes reading through in-arena events, public service announcements and school and community appearances throughout the year. WNBA players, coaches and family members also join members of the NBA family and local and national All-Star Reading Teams.

Self-Esteem Seminar

• Since its inaugural season in 2000, the Fever has welcomed young girls from Indianapolis Public Schools at the team’s Self-Esteem Seminar. One of the franchise's primary community relations initiatives, the purpose of the seminar each year is to help boost self-esteem, to help avoid drug use, alcoholism, teen pregnancy and crime.
• Usually held in April prior to the start of training camp, several players participate in the seminar in conjunction with prominent women in the Indianapolis community who help comprise the Fever Advisory Team.

F.E.V.E.R.

• For Every Victory Earns Respect! Fever players spend nearly three months between January and March each year speaking to Indianapolis-area fifth-grade boys and girls about the value of setting goals and achieving them. Several appearances by Fever players are made to schools in the Indianapolis Public School (IPS) system during the annual tour.

Choose Respect

• Choose Respect is an initiative that encourages young men and women to make every effort in forming healthy and respectful relationships with one another. It is founded on research maintained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These relationships are especially important as young people get older and begin dating. Since 2007, the CDC has worked with the WNBA to promote this initiative to young fans.
• The Fever also work locally with INCASA to bring the “choose respect” message to Indiana youth. Community Health Network has purchased a block of tickets for distribution to local community groups who are recognized at home games for their participation in this initiative
