Fever Awards $15,000 in Grants
"The Indiana Fever Fund focuses on empowering pre-teen and teen girls through programs that build character and self-esteem," said Glendal Jones, Public Relations Coordinator for Clarian Health and Fever Advisory Team member. "These grants are our first step toward our goal of making an impact on the lives of young women throughout Indiana."
The Fever Fund of the Pacers Foundation raised the allocated $15,000 from its 2001 Fever Bowl-A-Thon. This year's aggressive fundraising goal is $50,000.
"The Fever Fund aims to help young women enhance their lives and put them in control of their own futures," said First Lady of Indianapolis and Fever Advisory Team member Amy Minick Peterson. "That's why the City of Indianapolis is proud to support the efforts of the Fever Fund."
The Fever Fund of the Pacers Foundation will hold the 2002 Fever Bowl-A-Thon, its major fundraising event, in August. The Fever Fund will also hold a 50/50 raffle on Saturday, June 15 at the home game against the Cleveland Rockers.
The Pacers Foundation, Inc., the 501(c) (3) charitable arm of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, is dedicated to improving the lives of Indiana's young people by building individual and corporate partnerships that will provide the financial assistance for projects that benefit Indiana's youth. Since 1993, the Pacers Foundation, Inc. has awarded more than $1 million in grants to youth-serving organizations and in scholarships to Indiana youth. Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis- $2,500
Funds will help with a two-day teen (12-18) girls conference, Girl Power 2002, to help girls make decisions, demonstrate they care about themselves, and develop the skills for self-nurturing.
Girls Incorporated of Indianapolis- $5,000
Funds will assist with the Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy program advocating abstinence and is reinforced with reality accurate information about pregnancy, risky behaviors, contraception and protection.
The Julian Center- $5,000
Funds will be used for the Relationship Violence/Relationship Respect program. This program's goal is to positively influence children's attitudes and behaviors before they begin dating relationships.
YWCA Family Intervention Center- $2,500
Funds will go to an outreach project using Teens Against Domestic Violence to address the issue of domestic violence within their peer groups with the expected outcome to prevent violence before it occurs.
