    Fever Friends

In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, the Fever match young boys and girls with an adult mentor to attend Fever games throughout the season. Through this program, Fever players interact with kids and serve as role models. Fever Friends, which started during the inaugural Fever season, partnered exclusively with Big Sisters of Indiana prior to 2003. Since the Big Brothers and Big Sisters programs merged, the Fever began hosting boys and girls.

    Season of Giving

As part of the Pacers Sports & Entertainment's Citizenship Initiative, the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever celebrate a "Season of Giving" during the year each with a variety of community outreach efforts throughout the month to give back to the community that has given so much to us. The 2009-10 Season of Giving include events such as the "Come to Our House" Thanksgiving Dinner, Children's Hospital Visits, Catch the Holiday Fever and Shop with a Pacer.

Catch the Holiday Fever Christmas Program

The Catch the Holiday Fever Christmas Program, presented by Pacers Sports & Entertainment and Tamika Catchings' Catch The Stars Foundation culminates in a special Christmas party prior to a Pacers game in December. Approximately 100 children from families selected by the United Christmas Services of United Way of Central Indiana are sponsored by PS&E and Catch the Stars Foundation. At the Christmas Party the children open their gifts, receive goodie bags and special visits from Indiana Fever star Tamika Catchings and, of course, Santa Claus! Each family is a guest of the Pacers home game. In order to be a part of this program families must go through the process of United Christmas Services and request to be sponsored by the Catch the Holiday Fever program.

    Children's Hospital Visits

As part of the Pacers Sports & Entertainment Community Spirit Initiative, members of the Indiana Pacers team, Indian Fever and coaching staff, including mascots Boomer and Bowser, along with members of the Indiana Pacemates, visit area children's hospitals to help lift the spirits of those children and their families. Hospital visits include the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent, Riley Children's Hospital, Community Hospital North and Methodist Children's Hospital. In 2009 the Indiana Pacers once again teamed up with Cheryl & Co. for the hospital visits, where each patient received a Boomer or Bowser plush doll, as well as a Pacers t-shirt and the opportunity to take a photo or get an autograph from their favorite player or Pacemate. In addition, Cheryl & Co. provided a special batch of cookies to the children at each hospital. Players in the Community

The WNBA connects with fans of all ages through extensive community outreach. As the league marks the fourteenth season of the WNBA, the players continue to be recognized for their commitment and dedication to fans in cities across America. The WNBA has three primary community initiatives: WNBA Fit, Read to Achieve and Breast Health Awareness. In addition to these initiatives, the WNBA honors players who are active in their communities with the WNBA Community Assist Award presented four times a year. Fever Players Honored with WNBA Community Assist Awards

Indiana is fortunate to have a number of outstanding female role models on the Fever roster that make unbelievable efforts to give back to the fans and the community. In 2006, two Fever players were recognized for their efforts with WNBA Community Assist Awards.

    • Olympia Scott was honored by the league for the many appearances she made during the 2006 preseason on behalf of the team. Her involvement in programs like Breast Health Awareness and the Fever's Self-Esteem Seminar earned her the award.
    • Tamika Catchings has earned the reputation as one of the WNBA's most devoted players to the community. She added to her reputation in 2006 when she was recognized by the league in July for her many off-the-court endeavors. Whether it was signing autographs or holding clinics for kids Catchings impacted thousands of lives throughout the 2006 season.
    • The Fever has consistently had players win the Community Assist Awards. Catchings has been an off-season recipient as well as a five-time winner of in-season awards. Other past winners include Niele Ivey, Nikki McCray, Kelly Schumacher and Natalie Williams. In all, Fever players have garnered WNBA Community Assist Awards on 11 occasions.
    • Tamika Catchings also won the inaugural Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award in 2008 for her work around Indiana and with her own Catch the Stars Foundation. The award signifies a WNBA player who is an excellent personal role model to younger children.

    Community Ticket Blocks

Kids love going to a professional sports event. For many of our kids, at risk or not, they might never get a chance to see the Pacers or Fever in action. A night out with a chaperone and a group of friends lets them see on-court athletic achievement. And it might just turn out to be instructive about the benefits of determination and perseverance. All we know is that the kids have fun and laugh and let us into their lives for a night. And for us, that's a good start. Our Community Ticket Block Program is open to all non-profit organizations. To request complimentary tickets through this program, you must provide your Tax ID #. Each season you must resubmit an online application form. Please Click here to complete the online application form. Effective September 1, 2009 requests for Community Ticket Blocks will only be accepted online.

    Be Tolerant

Based on a statewide community-needs assessment study, the Be Tolerant grant is one of five funds that target the most pressing issues facing our kids today. Almost 30 percent of teens in the United States (or over 5.7 million) are estimated to be involved in bullying as either a bully, a target of bullying, or both, and children who bully are more likely to report that they own guns for risky reasons, such as to gain respect or frighten others, according to the American Medical Association. Of hate crimes reported in 2005, 55 percent were motivated by a racial bias, 17 percent were triggered by a religious bias, 14 percent were motivated by a sexual-orientation bias, and 13 percent of the incidents were motivated by an ethnicity/national origin bias. Almost two-thirds of reported attacks were committed by individuals under the age of 24. The Pacers Foundation supports the efforts of Indiana groups that teach tolerance and respect for diversity; focus on breaking down racial, ethnic, religious and other barriers by bringing youth from "all walks of life" together and exposing youth to cultures and "ways of life" other than their own; and carry out anti-bullying and anti-stigma programs. As such, school-based programs, faith-based programs, and other non-profit organizations focused on encouraging youth to Be Tolerant should consider applying. This does not mean, however, that we will not fund other types of organizations focused on teaching tolerance. The bulleted points above simply refer to our priorities in this area. Be Charitable

One of our flagship community partnerships is a partnership between the Pacers Foundation and The LEAGUE . Be Charitable is a school-based program designed to teach kids about philanthropy and encourage volunteerism. By teaching our kids to "give back" we are raising our next generation to not only help others, but help themselves too. Now in 160 schools statewide, this winning program is giving thousands of kids a winning shot in life. For more information on the Be Charitable Community Partnership, visit Pacers Foundation
