Catchings Encounters Two-Way Support

January 31, 2005
Fever All-Star Tamika Catchings was back from an afternoon class at the University of Tennessee on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 20, just in time to attend a girl's basketball game at Lutheran High School. And, just in time to accept a sizeable donation.

On hand to sign autographs and make one of her many community appearances throughout Indianapolis, Catchings recently established her "Catch The Stars" Foundation to assist disadvantaged youth.

She attended the game as a part of the Fever's community outreach program and was greeted with a $1,000 donation from the Lutheran High School Student Council.

“We get a lot of different requests for contributions," said Lutheran's Student Activities Coordinator Terry Baughman, "and many are the same from year to year. Tamika’s foundation is completely different. Not only does it relate to athletics, but it also teaches about life. Many of our members are active in sports, and they felt that donating to this charity was worthwhile because it provides a two-fold process to help kids. It helps us be active in both parts, not just the athletics but the morals and values of life.”
