In 1988, Joyner-Kersee became the only woman to win a gold medal in a multi-event and specialty event at the same Olympics when she earned gold in both the heptathlon and the long-jump. She is also the only woman to win two Olympic heptathlons (1988 and 1992).
"I really admire Jackie Joyner-Kersee. I’ve been a huge fan of hers. I just think she’s an amazing athlete, and I love the way she carries herself. She just has so much class, so I would love to spend the day with her.
If you could spend a day with her, how would you want to spend the time?
"I’d probably want to ask her all about her workouts. I’d want her to take me into the weight room and show me what kinds of things she did. I’m always looking to learn from other people that have done it before me on how they were successful, how they handled the media, how they handled just professional sports and how they handled the workouts, so I’d try and pick her brain about all those things."
Do you think of yourself and the WNBA as a part of women's history?
"I’m so appreciative of what all those women athletes did before us because we have a tremendous opportunity. We get paid to play basketball and a lot of women didn’t have those opportunities even in high school or college and they fought for everything we’re getting today, so I’m just so appreciative of everything that they went through so we could have these opportunities."
