After injuries prevented Tina Thompson from competing in the the 1998 and 2002
World Championships, the 6-2 forward from Inglewood, California started eight
games for the gold medal winning USA Basketball Team at the 2004 Olympic Games.
But the 2004 Olympic medal wasn't her first, Thompson won a gold medal at the
1996 R. William Jones Cup and a silver medal at the 1995 World University Games
while attending the University of Southern California.
Thompson was selected by the Houston Comets in the first round (first overall)
of the 1997 WNBA draft. She has played in 269 games for Houston during her 10-year
career and helped the Comets win four consecutive championships from 1997 to
2000. Thompson has also been selected to four All-Star Games and was named WNBA
All-Star M.V.P. in 2000. .
