Sue Bird's first experience with USA Basketball came six years ago when she was a member of the 2000 gold medal USA R. William Jones Cup Team. Directly following her senior season at the University of Connecticut, where she won two National championships, Bird went on to join the 2002 USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team and helped the U.S. win the gold medal at the 2002 FIBA World Championship. While averaging 3.8 points and 1.3 assists in 10 total games, Bird helped lead the 2004 USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team to an Olympic gold medal.

Bird, a native of Syosset, N.Y., was selected by the Seattle Storm in the first round, first overall, of the 2002 WNBA draft. She led the Storm to a WNBA championship in 2004 and has played in two All-Star Games. During her five-year career, Bird has averaged 12.6 points and 5.7 assists while starting every game she has played. In 16 career playoff game, the 5-9 point guard has averaged 10.1 points and 4.8 assists.
