With two straight losses, the New York Liberty relinquished the top spot this week and fall all the way to... No. 2. Seattle, Detroit, Houston and Los Angeles are all riding winning streaks and jockeying for position, but there is only room for one team at No. 1. After three straight weeks as the runner-up, the Seattle Storm now find themselves on top. The Shock made the biggest jump, all the way to No. 3.

In winning its only game of the week, the Storm extended their current winning streak to three games. But they will find out just how good they are with two challenging road contests. 2	New York (1)	6-3	All is not lost for Liberty fans despite their team dropping two straight since winning six in a row. In the two losses to Indiana and Washington, N.Y. shot an impressive 45.2% from 3-pt range and only lost by a combined six points. The battle of first place teams takes place at MSG Tuesday night. 3	Detroit (7)	5-3	The doubters came out of the woodwork after the Shock started their season 1-3. But Detroit has come back in a big way. Perhaps inspired by the play of their male counterparts, the Shock have roared back into second place, just one game behind the conference-leading Liberty, thanks to four straight comeback victories. Upcoming: at Sacramento
4	Houston (4)	6-4	The Comets also struggled to find themselves early on as a result of an entirely new backcourt. But Tina Thompson and Sheryl Swoopes, who have led Houston in scoring in all 10 games so far this season, have willed the Comets back into the upper echelon of WNBA teams. Upcoming: vs. Seattle; at Minnesota
5	Los Angeles (6)	6-4	The Sparks started their season on a long road trip and came out on a positive note. Now, things are beginning to look up for the three-time defending Western Conference champions, having won three in a row. Except for the fact that they are going back out on the road. If they can keep their heads above water, they could head home with a lot of confidence. Upcoming: at Phoenix; at Charlotte
6	Indiana (5)	4-4	The Fever may still be at .500, but with two wins over the Liberty so far, including one on Friday night in New York, Indiana is very much a force in the Eastern Conference. We won't mention that they could have been 6-2 if they had held onto the late leads over Detroit last week. Well, maybe we just did. Upcoming: vs. Sacramento; vs. New York
7	Minnesota (3)	4-4	Congratulations to Katie Smith, who broke the 3,000 point barrier in Friday's game in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the Lynx lost the contest, its only game of the week, but Tamika Williams and Nicole Ohlde continue to be an effective 1-2 punch in the frontcourt. Upcoming: vs. Sacramento; vs. Houston
8	Phoenix (9)	4-4	Phoenix continues to hover around the .500 mark and the middle of the pack. Diana Taurasi continues to live up to all of the billing. Penny Taylor and Anna DeForge are also scoring more, but need to do so on a more consistent basis if the Mercury hope to make the playoffs. Upcoming: vs. Los Angeles
9	Connecticut (8)	4-6	The jury is still out on the Sun this season. After starting out slowly, Mike Thibault's team has alternated good weeks with off weeks. The team could experience growing pains as they continue to adjust to Lindsay Whalen at the point, but they are more than capable of beating any team on any given night. Upcoming: vs. Charlotte; vs. Washington
10	Charlotte (11)	3-5	The Sting move up one spot thanks to an impressive victory in Phoenix. Nicole Powell made her Phoenix return and leads the league in 3-pt FG%. Tammy Sutton-Brown has been playing like an All-Star, scoring 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds against the Mercury. Upcoming: at Connecticut; vs. Los Angeles
11	Washington (13)	3-5	The Mystics got out early on the defending champions before ultimately falling at home, but were able to hold on at home against the Liberty, the team with the best record in the WNBA thanks, to Holdsclaw shot just before the buzzer. Upcoming: vs. San Antonio; at Connecticut
12	Sacramento (12)	2-5	The Monarchs lost two in a row at home and now head out on a brief midwest road trip. Edna Campbell was placed on the Injured Reserve list, but perhaps her replacement on the roster, rookie Giuliana Mendiola, can jump start Sacramento back into playoff contention. Upcoming: at Indiana; at Minnesota
13	San Antonio (10)	3-6	We know that San Antonio is capable of performing better than they have. Earlier in the season, the Silver Stars sat atop the standings with a 3-1 record. Since then, they have dropped five straight games and now head east for two road games. The Silver Stars are just too talented to stay in the basement for long Upcoming: at Charlotte; at Washington
