Photographic Memory: Detroit’s Swin Cash

WNBA.com's "Photographic Memory" asks players to look at a photo of themselves and talk about what it captures -- what was going through their mind at that moment of the game and what the photo reveals about their style. Here, Detroit Shock forward Swin Cash talks about her style of game - a slasher - and about what she has done to take her game to the ultimate level, a level that now includes a college championship, a WNBA title and an Olympic gold medal.

What do you think of when you see this picture?
I'm intense. I'm moving off the dribble. And I've probably only got one thing on my mind: I've got to get to the basket.

When you dribble like that, do you see the defender's face?
No. I just see the waist down pretty much and where my players are.

With your athleticism, do you thinki about trying to exploit the defender?
It depends on if I have a post player or not, it depends on what my matchup is. I'll probably know what their weakness is and relate it.

Do you work on beating people off the dribble in practice?
Yes, I did. I work on pull-up jumpers or dish to me teammate who's probably at the elbow.

Having had success in college and now taking your game to the ultimate level, how have you had to prepare differently?
Playing in the WNBA is different than UConn from the standpoint that the competition is at a higher level. Everyone probably had been the best players at their schools at every position.

What is it like when you see a former teammate lined up against you?
Playing against my old teammates is a lot of fun because we can talk stuff and still go out afterwards and hang out and still joke about it. But I really do miss playing with them, but I think we all had to grow up at some point and kind of go our separate ways, but we're still really close.
