2005 Playoffs Round One:
Sheryl Swoopes, Houston Comets

A leading contender in the 2005 WNBA MVP race, Comets forward Sheryl Swoopes kept her fantastic season alive by leading Houston to a dramatic three-game First Round win over the defending champion Seattle Storm last week.

The three seed entering the Playoffs, the Comets dropped Game One at home, but rallied to win the next two games on the road. In three games, Swoopes averaged 16.3 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game and 4.3 assists per game. In the decisive 75-58 Game Three win, Swoopes recorded the first triple-double in WNBA history, finishing with 14 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. Swoopes also had the first regular season triple-double in the league. Next up, the Comets face the Monarchs in the Western Conference Finals.

Perhaps the most decorated player in league history, racking up league MVP Awards and Defensive Player of the Year Awards at an impressive clip, Swoopes won the regular season scoring title by averaging 18.6 points per game. It is even more impressive considering she led her team for much of the way without the support of her frontcourt partner and fellow Olympian, Tina Thompson, who has yet to play this season after giving birth to her son. Yet another addition to a fine body of work that includes four WNBA titles and three Olympic gold medals.

Swoopes was also the leading vote-getter among all starters for the 2005 WNBA All-Star Game and was named MVP of the All-Star Game.
