August 2 : Sue Bird
Seattle Storm

The first WNBA player to win the weekly Cascade Dish and Assist Award so far this season, Seattle's Sue Bird is a worthy recipent after averaging 7.0 assists per game in the past week and helping to lead her team to yet another perfect week. The Storm have now won six straight games to pull into a tie with the Houston Comets for second place in the Western Conference.

In the wins against the Sting and Sparks this week, Bird recorded seven in assists in each game, averaged 14.5 ppg and shot 6-9 from 3-point range. She also grabbed a season-high five rebounds on Friday night against Charlotte.

Bird, who won the same award just two weeks ago, has held onto the overall assist lead around the league with 6.0 per game. If she is able to hold onto the title at the end of the season, she would be just the fourth player to lead the league in assists after Teresa Weatherspoon (1997), Ticha Penicheiro (1998-2003) and Nikki Teasley (2004). Bird has finished second to the ultimate statistical leader in all three of her previous seasons and averages 6.0 apg over her career.
