Monarchs guard
Ticha Penicheiro is used to being among the WNBA assist leaders. After all, Penicheiro has lead the league in assists per game in each of her first six WNBA seasons.
So it should come as no surprise that the 5-10 graduate of Old Dominion University became the WNBA's all-time assist leader last Thursday night in Minnesota. She now has 1,322 total assists while Los Angeles Sparks guard Teresa Weatherspoon trails with 1,316 (as of 6/21).
While Sacramento has gotten off to a slow start and Penicheiro's is only No. 7 in the WNBA with 4.3 assists per game so far in 2004, the 2003 WNBA Cascade Dish & Assist Award winner has averaged 7.2 assists per game over her career.
Just last week, the four-time WNBA All-Star and No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 WNBA Draft recorded nine assists against the Connecticut Sun. Her single-game career-high is 16, which she has done twice.
