The eighth overall pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft out of LSU, Marie Ferdinand made her first All-Star appearance in 2002.
Ferdinand was one of three Utah Starzz players to start all 32 games last year. She finished the 2002 season ranked fifth in the WNBA in free throws made (132), 11th in points (15.3 ppg) and 12th in steals (1.59 spg). Ferdinand proved to be a consistent scoring threat, leading the team in scoring 16 times and scoring in double figures 28 times.
In WNBA.com's preseason survey of WNBA General Managers, Ferdinand came in tops in the best shooting guard category at 37.5%. She also came in second to Mwadi Mabika for best athleticism and was part of a seven-player tie for the WNBA's most underrated player.
Ferdinand has started off strong in 2003*, averaging 14.6 points per game and getting to the free throw line an impressive 55 times in her first eight games -- converting on 40 of these attempts.
