July 7, 2008 - The 2008 WNBA season and the Pick One Challenge are moving into July as we march on towards the break for Beijing 2008. Here is a look at what went down last week and what to look forward to this week, which features six days with at least one game on the schedule.
Last Week's MVP: Lauren Jackson, Seattle Storm
Jackson was on fire last week, averaging 33.5 points and 7.0 rebounds to lead the Storm to two home victories. Jackson shot 27-42 from the field and currently ranks third in the league with 20.5 points per game. The Storm will be in action for three games this week against Western Conference rivals, including home dates against Phoenix and Los Angeles.
Rookie Watch
Candace Parker posted one of her best games of the season on Sunday night, scoring 31 points with ten rebounds and four assists in a win over Phoenix. She currently ranks eight in the WNBA in scoring (17.7 ppg), second in rebounds (9.2 rpg), and 12th in assists (3.9). In other rookie happenings last week, Atlanta's Tamera Young has moved up to fourth in the rookie PRA rankings with 16.4 per game. With only three rookies averaging in double-figures this season, Young is the next best player with 9.1 points per game. The upcoming schedule could be tough for Young as the Dream will play six straight games on the road.
Last Week's Picks
My entry moved back up from the 75th to the 82nd percentile as I scored 141 points for the week. Rookie Tamera Young posted 52 points for me last Tuesday when she scored 15 points with seven rebounds and four assists for Atlanta. Alana Beard closed out the week with a 20-point, six assist game on Sunday.

Wednesday: Charde Houston, Minnesota vs. Atlanta
Charde Houston has slowed down from her hot start to the season, but she is still one of the league's top rookies with 7.8 points and 3.6 rebounds. Houston will look to improve in her second matchup against Atlanta after being held to two points in Minnsota's first matchup with the Dream.
Thursday: Yolanda Griffith, Seattle vs. Phoenix
Yolanda Griffith was held without a point against Minnesota on Saturday and will look to rebounds on Thursday against the Mercury. Griffith is averaging 5.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in her first season with the Seattle Storm. She is averaging 8.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in two games against Phoenix this season.
Friday: Alexis Hornbuckle, Detroit vs. Washington

Saturday: Rebekkah Brunson, Sacramento vs. Phoenix
Sacramento's Rebekkah Brunson is one of the league's best young post players and can be a threat to post a double-double in any game. Brunson missed a double-double by one rebound on Thursday and and will look for another in her first meeting with Phoenix this season. The former Georgetown star ranks eighth in the WNBA with 7.5 rebounds and also is contributing 11.4 points per game.
Sunday: Nakia Sanford, Washington vs. Connecticut
Nakia Sanford is in her sixth WNBA season, all as a Washington Mystic. She posted the best season of her career in 2007 with 11.0 points and 7.1 rebounds, but her numbers this year have taken a dip to 6.2 points and 6.0 rebounds.
