Dream Announces Preseason Schedule
Atlanta’s lone home preseason game will be played Monday, May 13, against the Brazil National Team, beginning at 7 p.m. ET. The Dream will also play a preseason game at Tulsa on May 9 at 12:30 p.m. ET.
The game against the Brazilian squad will provide an opportunity for the Dream to strengthen its ties to the local Brazilian community. Center Erika de Souza has provided a link to Brazil, starring for the Dream since the team’s initial season in 2008. The popular de Souza was a 2009 WNBA All-Star selection and led the Brazilian team in scoring and rebounding at the 2012 London Olympics.
In addition, Brazilian Iziane Castro Marques was a key member of the Dream during the team’s first four seasons, helping the squad win back-to-back Eastern Conference titles in 2010 and 2011.
“This event will be something very special for the Brazilian community in Atlanta,” said Rosana Lima, a director of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southeast. “We are a small community but we are very excited about having players like Erika de Souza on WNBA teams. We are putting all of our hands together to make this a big game for our community, and I will do my best to help make this a great event.”
Minas Emporium, a landmark Brazilian store located in Marietta, will assist in promoting the game to the Brazilian community and serve as a meeting spot for a group that will attend the game.
The two-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream will tip off its sixth season in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on May 25 at Philips Arena. The Dream qualified for the playoffs in each of the past four seasons, including back-to-back conference titles in 2010 and 2011.
