- McCoughtry helps Team USA to victory over Brazil -

ATLANTA, July 17, 2012 —Two current members of the Atlanta Dream and one former member were on the court when the USA Basketball Women’s National Team beat Brazil Monday evening in an exhibition game in Washington, D.C. Dream guard/forward Angel McCoughtry helped lead Team USA to a 99-67 victory over Dream center Erika de Souza’s Brazil squad, which also featured former Dream guard Iziane Castro Marques.

McCoughtry, playing in her first game since July 1, came off the bench and played nearly 11 minutes. She scored just four points – all from the free throw line – but swiped a team-best four steals, grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked a shot. McCoughtry attempted just two field goals, including one three-pointer, while sinking four of her eight free throw attempts.

“We still have some things to work on, but we knew that going in," said McCoughtry. "I think we had some good energy out there. We were up and down at times but overall I thought we played a good game.”

For Brazil, de Souza had just three points, but grabbed 11 rebounds and led all players with five blocked shots in almost 26 minutes of action. She also had two steals. Castro Marques led Brazil with 21 points, sinking 7-of-17 shots and all five of her free throws. Two of her field goals were three-point baskets, and she added two rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Team USA departs Tuesday for Manchester, England, and will hold its next exhibition Wednesday against Great Britain in Manchester. The game tips off at 2:10 p.m. ET.
