Erika de Souza Tabbed to Start All-Star Game

PHOENIX, July 18, 2014 – Erika de Souza of the Atlanta Dream was named a starter for Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2014 by Eastern Conference Head Coach Michael Cooper, the league announced today. De Souza will take the spot of Chicago Sky frontcourt star Elena Delle Donne in the Eastern Conference lineup. Delle Donne has been sidelined for 12 of the Sky’s last 13 games due to the effects of Lyme disease.

The 32-year-old de Souza will be in the East lineup alongside fellow frontcourt players Angel McCoughtry (Atlanta) and Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever), as well as backcourt players Shoni Schimmel (Atlanta) and Cappie Pondexter (New York Liberty).

For de Souza, who is making the third All-Star appearance of her career, this marks her first time in the starting lineup. At the All-Star break, the native of Brazil ranks 12th in the WNBA in scoring (14.8 ppg), third in rebounds (9.5 rpg), and fourth in field goal percentage (.574, 132-of-230) and blocks (1.71 bpg).
