July 2008 Community Update
Katie Feenstra, Ivory Latta and Tamera Young recently attended the finale of R&B superstar Usher’s “Camp New Look.” The Dream have an ongoing partnership with Usher’s New Look Foundation, and Latta was an active participant in the two-week camp held at Georgia Tech. “Camp New Look” brings approximately 150 youth ages 12-17 from around the country to inspire them to further explore their interests in the sports and entertainment field. The free camp provides a series of workshops that include a business focus on acting, dancing, music and sports.

On their first day off (July 28), Katie Feenstra, Chioma Nnamaka and Tamera Young kicked off community appearances by checking out the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta “Rehab Games” at Philips Arena. During the annual event, hundreds of children enjoy an interactive setup of games and get to spend the day with athletes and mascots from the local professional sports teams.
That afternoon, Alison Bales, Ivory Latta and Dream team ambassador Chantelle Anderson paid a visit to the DeShawn Snow Foundation’s “Empower Me” camp. The camp is designed to build self-esteem in girls ages 11-17 and to impact the decisions that they make. The DeShawn Snow Foundation strives to empower teenage girls and primarily focuses on work with underprivileged and disadvantaged teenage girls between the ages of 11 and 17.
The Dream also conducted a book drive prior to the July 27 game against the New York Liberty. Thank you to all the Dream fans who donated books or made a monetary contribution. All proceeds benefited Communities in Schools of Atlanta.
The Dream will be making appearances all over the metro Atlanta area during the Olympic break. Stay tuned to www.AtlantaDream.net for more details and keep checking the Community Calendar for updates.
