Dream Partners With Usher's New Look Foundation
During the team’s inaugural season, the Atlanta Dream partnered with R&B superstar Usher Raymond’s New Look Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by the 5 time Grammy Award winner. As part of the partnership, three New Look participants gained hands on experience in the sports industry by completing a 2.5 month internship in the Atlanta Dream’s ticket sales department. Their main focus was to find creative ways to sell tickets for the Dream’s Kids Day game.
"I'm extremely excited about Camp New Look's partnership with the Atlanta Dream, and look forward to witnessing how this new partnership motivates our young people to even greater heights," says Usher. "We wanted to do something extra special for our students, and I'm happy that the Atlanta Dream has provided an avenue for our young entrepreneurs to attain real life experience."
During the Kids Day game, members of Camp New Look put on a show for the crowd at Philips Arena, performing a choreographed routine that incorporated elements of dance, music, theater and art. Camp New Look is a two-week camp held at Georgia Tech that brings approximately 150 youth ages 12-17 from around the country to inspire them to further explore their interests in the sports and entertainment field. The free camp provides a series of workshops that include a business focus on acting, dancing, music and sports.
Dream players Katie Feenstra, Ivory Latta and Tamera Young attended the Camp New Look finale in July to celebrate the accomplishments of the participants. Latta was an active participant throughout the two-week camp and worked closely on projects with many of the camp participants.
