ATLANTA, May 28, 2009— Fans got a chance to mingle with the entire Atlanta Dream team on Saturday May 23 at the 32nd annual Atlanta Jazz Festival held at Grant Park. The team rotated around the NBA Jam Van signing autographs, taking pictures, and competing in a free-throw challenge against fans eager to challenge the Dream players. For the record, the Dream players went undefeated, winning all 18 games.
The large turnout of fans at the Jam Van was attributed in large part to the Atlanta Dream’s new Street Team. The team interacted with festival participants, providing information about the upcoming season and giving away lots of prizes. The Dream’s Street Team consists of basketball enthusiasts that work closely with the Dream to help generate awareness and excitement as the team prepares for its second season in the city.
Jazz Fest had a large turnout despite the downpour, which also made for a successful event for the Dream. A number of Dream season ticket holders came out to show their support and meet the new faces on the team and by the end of the event, the players definitely made some new fans as well!
Building relationships of all kinds in the community is as important as playing the game. The support of the fans at each game is just one reason why the Dream gives back to the community. And when asked to take a last minute picture before the team left, Ivory Latta said, “Sure, I’ll do this all day baby.”
