The Dream Foundation, a nonprofit charity, supports community programs and non-profit organizations in the Atlanta area focusing on girls, women and children. The operations of the Dream Foundation are guided by the expertise of the Board (Stacey Abrams, Bill Bolen, Bob Hope, A.J. Robinson and Beth Schapiro) and Atlanta Dream front office employees. We thank these individuals that give their time to assist in continuing to give back to our community.
Designed to introduce eighth grade girls to positive female role models via frequent one-on-one interaction with Dream Players and Coaches, “Shooting Stars” cheer squad, and appropriate Atlanta media, “Power of Girls” is the first program of its kind in the WNBA.
Carefully selected from April applications, a dozen girls interact with Dream players and staff (their mentors), and actively participate in a series of bi-weekly workshops covering a wide range of topics including finance, health & beauty, fashion, communications, arts & culture, environment, community service, and sports/leisure.
Interaction with the team, social activities, event outings, and visits to organizations specializing in the aforementioned topics provide the opportunity for the girls to improve their awareness of both themselves and the society in which they live.
On Martin Luther King Day, the Atlanta Dream put on a clinic for 90 participants (girls and boys) at no charge. Funding for the clinic was provided by donations from the Dream Foundation. The MLK Clinic was hosted at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center on Sunday, January 18, 2009. Staff members and players from the Atlanta Dream hosted the clinic and dedicated their time. The event was well received by all in attendance.
