The Dream (2-17) look to continue their strong start to the second half of the season against the San Antonio Silver Stars (13-6). This is the second matchup between the two teams. San Antonio won the first game 81-66 in Atlanta on June 18, 2008.
After starting the season 0-17, the Dream have come out strong to start the second half of the season, recording back-to-back wins. The Dream are coming off a big 73-67 road win against the Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday night (July 9, 2008). Trailing by 16 points midway through the third, the Dream stormed back, going on a 15-4 run to get within five at the end of the third. The Dream finished the game on a 13-1 run to steal the victory from the Lynx. Betty Lennox scored 17 of her 24 points in the second half to lead Atlanta to victory.
The Silver Stars have jumped out to the lead in the Western Conference (includes games through July 9, 2008). San Antonio is coming off an 83-79 victory against the New York Liberty on Tuesday night, and will be in action again Thursday night (July 10) against the Chicago Sky before playing the Dream. San Antonio’s victory over New York extended their winning streak to five games. The Silver Stars were led by Becky Hammon’s 27 points and Sophia Young’s 23 points.
The Silver Stars lead the series with the Dream 1-0, cruising to an 81-66 victory in the first matchup between the two teams. In that game, Becky Hammon recorded 25 points and nine assists, and Ann Wauters added a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Atlanta was led by Tamera Young’s near triple-double. Young recorded nine points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.
Dream center Katie Feenstra spent her first two seasons in the WNBA with the Silver Stars. Rookie Chioma Nnamaka was originally drafted by San Antonio this season before being acquired by the Dream in a draft day trade.
