Analysis
The Monarchs seem to defy expectations year in and year out. Last season was no different, as Sacramento earned the fourth and final postseason berth in a Western Conference that many said experienced its most competitive playoff chase to date. However, for the second straight season the Monarchs went out in the Conference Semifinals at the hands of the San Antonio Silver Stars. It's clear that if Sacramento is to finally get over that hump and return to the WNBA Finals, it'll need to do so by upgrading its talent. Sacramento made some gains in the off-season by acquiring Hamchetou Maiga-Ba and Barbara Farris, but there's still a lot to be done in the draft. Considering Ticha Penicheiro is 34 years old, it would behoove the Monarchs to start looking at acquiring their point guard of the future. The backcourt in general is an area that could use replenishing.
